In Christian theology, the entire Creation will be summed up in a marriage supper where Jesus weds a bride; the Church, radiant and beautiful.
A marriage between humanity and the Divine has been in the works since the Garden. Jesus, himself a husband-to-be, and we all – women and men – are a beautiful bride awaiting the full expression of his life invested into ours. It is the longing of Creation, the greatest of mysteries: The Divine investing fully into humanity, and humanity receiving the fullness of God.
Your day-to-day marriage is the wedding rehearsal, of sorts, for this coming reality. Marriage is something far greater than two people attempting to share life together. Marriage, your marriage, is intended to be a profound picture of the God of the universe and all of Creation coming together in incredible oneness. Two becoming one.
Marriage is an incarnation of God right in your midst. Marriage is a fiery melting pot combining the uniqueness of you, the uniqueness of your wife, and the God of the universe. And if you’ll allow yourself to learn, God will put Himself on display through the home you build with your bride.
